Our story

Main Street Vet began as a small practice in a converted household on the North side of Madison, Ga. Dr James Williams acquired our practice from the estate of Dr Ken Fortson on April 9, 2009. A veterinarian, a colleague and a friend who passed away suddenly in 2009, Dr Fortson’s legacy of good character, good humor and good care of his small town community lives on through the vision of Dr James and his Main Street Vet team.

We believe in commitment – to each pet and their families. To one another as we work. To the community that supports and encourages us.

We believe in careful attention – we say “care to our core,” because that is the where the depth of our care comes from, our core! It drives our pursuit of constant improvement, education, and services that will help the pets and people in our care.

We believe pets are family, and that they are part of our family. We treat each pet like family, every single time.

We believe in relationships – we take great pride in the bonds we have and continue to build in our town, community and beyond.

We believe our primary role is in helping you understand your pet’s medical needs, so you can make the best decisions for your pet and your family.

Dr James has a saying in a frame on his wall – a gift from a client the year he opened this practice:

“Always do right, this will gratify some people and astonish the rest.”

Mark Twain

“I'm part of the team that helps to make small impacts on people's lives through their pets. We all support each other to make that happen and I'm proud to be a part of it.”

Dr. Mary Peter, D.V.M

Always Do Right. For Each Pet, Their Humans, and Our Community.

“MSV is a dedicated, passionate group of people working for our clients to safeguard and promote the health and welfare of their pets, from the beginning of their lives to the end.”

Dr. James Williams, D.V.M

“It is truly a blessing to work for Main Street Vet. They care to the core for all pets and their humans.”
